M.C. HARRIS

B 1950

A Second Generation Artist.

Marc Cabell Harris was born

in New York City.

His father was a jazz impresario

and surrealist painter.

His mother, a writer and fashion couturier.

He grew up in Northern California where he attended California College of the Arts (CCA), graduating in printmaking in 1972. His first public exhibition was a two-man show in San Francisco featuring his etchings and the lithographs of M.C. Escher.

Mr. Harris later founded the Marco Polo Companies, where he was known for his textile designs in the apparel and home furnishing industries. In 2000 he began to devote full time to his painting.

Recognized for his playful and exuberant style, his paintings are often described as modernist or cubist in nature. "Characteristic of M.C. Harris's work, the canvases are rendered in a vivid, expressive manner with broadly applied planes of color and the use of graceful lines to articulate forms in nature."

Like a number of early to mid-20th century modernist painters, his languid forms are organized to produce a sensual emotional response to what, in fact, is often a serene or classical subject.

The artist resides in Sonoma County where he shares a gallery in Healdsburg (The Harris Gallery) with his Son.

Mr. Harris's work is widely collected and can be found in numerous private, public and corporate collections throughout the world.
